# PDR 001: Use one public, connected account of the work

- HTML version: https://robbiepalmer.me/projects/personal-knowledge-graph/pdrs/001-one-public-account-of-the-work
- Project: Personal Knowledge Graph
- Status: Accepted
- Opened: 2025-10-18
- Decided: 2025-10-18

## Context

Professional experience, project work, research, writing, and the reasoning
behind technical choices were scattered across GitHub, LinkedIn, and private
notes. A conventional portfolio could collect links and screenshots,
but it would still hide how ideas became decisions and delivered work.

The public source repository already made the work inspectable. The site could
use the same reviewed content to connect projects, decisions, technologies,
roles, and writing instead of maintaining another summary by hand.

## Decision

Use the Personal Knowledge Graph as the primary public account of the work.
Publish the project narratives, decision records, delivery evidence, research,
and writing that help a reader understand what changed and why. Connect those
records through explicit relationships rather than presenting them as
unrelated portfolio cards.

Keep the source public so readers can inspect the history and implementation.
Publish only material approved for the public graph. Working notes and
application data keep their own access boundaries.

## Consequences

Treat project documentation as a product artifact. A project page needs enough
history and evidence for a reader to assess the work, and changes to that
account go through the same review path as code.

The graph takes more maintenance than a static portfolio. Relationships,
lifecycle state, and claims can become stale. Public source also requires care
to keep secrets, private notes, and application data outside the repository.

## Evaluation

The choice is working when a reader can start from a project, idea, decision,
technology, role, or article and follow the relevant public history without
reconstructing it from several external profiles.

## Migration note

This record preserves the public, unified-presence policy first recorded in
ADR 000 and the original project narrative. Renaming Personal Site to Personal
Knowledge Graph on 2026-09-14 made the connected-account framing explicit. It
did not replace the underlying choice. Moving the policy into a PDR does not
change it; ADR 000 retains the technical choice of GitHub hosting.
